Recession negatives? You bet. I'm sure most people have something to say about this topic. Read below to see if you can relate, or tell your own tale anonymously if you like.

Positives About the Recession

  • Business Basics

    Name:
    Not in the USA

In many communities, people are returning to the basics of business. As in the days of our ancestors, there is a lot of bartering going on amongst self employed individuals. Trading goods and services has become a way of getting what we need when our income has become very limited. When not bartering in the traditional sense, lower rates are in effect that allow struggling individuals and companies to still be able to perform their jobs, and receive services and/or goods that they need. There has become a sense of common ground, in which ‘together we can’ is the current mantra.

  • Better Spending Habits

    Name:
    Non-Shopper

The recession has caused most of America to evaluate their spending habits. People are cutting back on expenses including family entertainment. Instead of going to the movies or dining out, they are choosing to return to the family dinner table, renting videos and having family game nights. Families are choosing less expensive ways to spend their time together, inviting other family and friends over for pitch in cook-outs. Instead of traveling across the country for vacations, people are seeking out vacation areas, festivals, other low cost events that are only a few hours from home.

  • More Frugal

    Name:
    A Penny Saved

As the economy becomes tighter with the loss of businesses and incomes, we are finding that people are becoming more conscious of where their dollar is going. People are seeking advice from financial counselors on the best way to save or budget their money. This conscious expenditure is enabling people to choose ways to spend their money wisely, causing them to look to gain more for less. In return retailers are lowering prices that allow their community to be able to still afford to shop in their stores along with an increase in available coupons and special pricing by manufacturers.

This man in the UK started a new business and said he wouldn't have been able to do it if it wasn't for the recession.

  • China? Superpower?

    Name:
    bizman

It will now take China longer to become a world super power. Thank you, Recession! Apparently the Chinese don't purchase as much as the US consumers did in the 80s thru 2000 ... or whatever the dates are. But thanks, recession, you may have stalled them by cutting our consumption! Way to go! Really!

Negatives About the Recession

  • I hate the recession

    Name:
    lostseattle

What I hate the most is that we don't know when it's going to be over. I mean, is it like the endless war on Terror? Will the War on the Economy start up soon? Where are the answers??

  • Negatives about the Recession

    Name:
    unemployed

The negative effects of a recession are very evident in the lives of many people. Unemployment is one of the worst effects of a recession because its financial impact is immediately felt by employees and their families. And, because the number of unemployed is much higher during a recession, it is also much tougher for a person who lost his job to find a new one. The unavailability of jobs becomes so severe that even those with college degrees experience difficulties in finding work.

  • domestic violence

    Name:
    Anonymous

Even though communities are pulling together in various ways to work through the current recession, there are negative aspects. One being domestic violence, along with other crimes such as theft. These are on the rise simply because lack of income causes stress. Stress causes some people to take out their frustrations on people close to them, children, spouses, significant others and even parents. Robbery, armed and otherwise, is more prevalent at this time as well. People are becoming desperate and see no other way to get ahead, other than to take what they need.

  • circular effect of loss

    Name:
    midwest
During the current recession, we have seen the circular effect of loss. Loss in income, loss in spending, loss in profits. A manufacturer has to close the business down because people are not buying the product they produce. Employee’s lose their jobs, thus their income, which prevents them from being to able to purchase items other than the necessities of life. Unemployment takes several weeks to receive once it’s been approved, by the time the individual receives it, they may be a month behind in bills.
  • Had to move

    Name:
    Moving Around
We had to move from Hermitage, Tn. because interest rates went up making our house payment go up.No way could we afford the increased payment. We sold that home and had to move out of state to find one cheap enough , that was livable that we could afford. Now we miss family so much and are so lonely. Being older people it is so hard to start over and make new friends.
  • I lost my house!!
